Grace's Cookery Book: Introduction
Grace Hamilton (nee Wiltshire) was born in 1918 and lived for 82 years - and always enjoyed cooking. She was a good 'traditional' cook who produced wholesome meals that could be considered typically British in flavour, and she won prizes for her cakes, pastries and jams. But she also loved experimenting, and thoroughly enjoyed swapping recipes with friends and trying new dishes. Grace kept a record of her best loved recipes, written by hand over the years. These recipes are now reproduced on this website for anyone to browse through and use. Please be aware that these are recipies from the 50's, 60's and 70's so will often use ingredients in use at those times. We hope over time that some of you who have a good recipe may like to share your knowledge with others. If so please use our contact form, so we can include your recipe here. Pat Clark and Ian Hamilton (Grace's children) Grace Florence Hamilton was born in Swindon, Wiltshire on 27th September 1918. She married Joseph Hamilton in 1940, they had 2 children, a daughter Patricia in 1945 and a son Ian in 1950. Joe was a Master Butcher by trade and had a butchers shop in Witney, Oxfordshire until ill health forced his retirement at the age of 59. Grace was a housewife who, as well as bringing up a family, supported her husbands business. In addition to her cookery, Grace loved golf, Bridge, gardening, and was a superb knitter. Grace passed away on 7th January 2001 - a much loved and missed wife, mother and grandmother. |
