Malt Loaf

  • 225g (8 oz) self-raising flour
  • half a level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 tablespoons malt extract
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 150 ml (quarter pint) milk
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 110g (4 oz) chopped dates



Grease a loaf tin and line the bottom with greaseproof paper
Gently melt the malt extract and syrup in the milk
Allow to cool
Add beaten egg
Mix in flour and bicarb
Beat well, then mix in dates
Pour mixture into loaf tin, bake for 50-60 mins at gas mark 3 (325 degrees)
