Quickly Made Bread

  • 450g (1 lb) strong white self-raining flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 25g (1 oz) margarine
  • 275 ml (half pint) milk



Sieve flour and salt into a basin
Make a well in the centre
In a separate basin, beat the egg
Melt the margarine in a saucepan
When tepid, add to the egg, then mi x in the milk
Pour mixture into the centre of the flour and work well into a soft dough
Cut in half and shape into long twists
Brush with beaten egg or milk
Bake in a greased tin in middle of oven at gas mark 7 (425 degrees F) for 35 mins
