Tea Scones

  • 50g (2 oz) margarine
  • half a level teaspoon salt
  • 225g (8 oz) self-raising flour
  • 2 level teaspoons castor sugar
  • 1 egg beaten with 2 tablespoon water
  • 50g 2 oz currants or sultanas



Rub fat into flour
Add remaining dry ingredients
Bind together with egg/water mix to give fairly soft dough
Roll out on floured board to half inch thickness
Curt into rounds, brush with milk
Bake on a greased and floured tray for 10 mins at gas mark 8 (450 degrees)

Serve with butter or cream and jam ( or all three!)
